Wool Dreadfalls

to make wool dreads, the tutorials call for the use of "wool roving", which looks like a fluffy wool mat. Usually you can only buy it in undyed white, but because I didn't want to deal with the colors not coming out right, I was looking for pre-colored wool. However, it turns out the stuff I bought, while being called roving, was more like halfway between roving and yarn. I thought I would make up for it by felting two or more strands of the yarn/roving together. Maybe it was because it's already been felted down, but it ended up looking like crap when I attempted to. I had gone through an entire process of trying to loosen the wool and felt it together, just to have it look like it did to start with. I ordered a couple more batches to add to it, this time I just added the wool/yarn as it was, and I can't even tell the difference between them. In the end, I had just created a LOT more work for myself than was necessary. Oh, and I also discovered felting needles are VERY sharp, and require a lot of patience to be effective. I returned the stupid thing.
